METHODOLOGY & PROCESS FOR ARMOR & WEAPON FORMING WITH (ABS, HIPS) PLASTIC
01
STEP 1 - INSPIRATION
Inspiration fuels desire, the desire to design and create, choose wisely, choose personally and plan your project to your means and ability.
02
STEP 2 - REFERENCE
Reference materials are the skeleton of your project, it provides you the foundation to begin creation addressing scale, proportion and fitment
03
STEP 3 - PATTERNS
Pattern-making are essentials for fitment of resulting forms to your body specifications resulting in a comfortable and proportional fit to your person.
04
STEP 4 - MALE MOLD
Male mold sculpted from polymer, oil-based clay formed to detail as a waste mold in a plaster of paris cast for tooling on a vacuum-forming machine.
05
STEP 5 - FEMALE TOOL
Female mold of plaster of paris is a negative of your final form, it allows a positive pull of plastic to exacting details duplicating your sculpture mold.
06
STEP 6 - THERMOFORM
A vacuum former with a square sheet of ABS or HIPS plastic provides the positive final form that reflects the accumulation of steps to an exacting form.
07
STEP 7 - TRIMMING
The pulled positive plastic form is trimmed by use of registration and cut lines at draft angles to ensure clean and proper fit and placement on body
08
STEP 8 - PAINTING
The visual effect of paint application is critical for a well executed piece of Cosplay forms, it will address shadow and light, and color acuity to reference material.
09
STEP 9 - POLISH & Q.A.
The last iterative process that allows both the perfectionist mind to clear the completed form to a desired standard and quality of fit and finish.
